(Florham Park, NJ)  — The Jets are being cautious with their star quarterback.  Aaron Rodgers was held out of Tuesday’s practice with a minor calf strain.  Rodgers had been participating in the voluntary workouts with his new team.  The signal caller did not participate in any drills, saying he tweaked his right calf during pre-practice conditioning.  The injury appeared to happen while he was hopping with a small medicine ball, but is not expected to miss an extended period of time.

(Undated)  — One of the leading rushers in NFL history claims that he still isn’t retired.  Adrian Peterson said that “mentally”, he hasn’t “officially hung it up.”  The 38-year-old running back has not played in the league since 2021, when he played a combined four games split between the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks.  The four-time All-Pro that also spent time with the Vikings, Cardinals, Lions, Saints and Washington and currently ranks fifth on the all-time rushing list with 14,918 yards.  Peterson said that if no team signs him this season, he will be “hanging it up.”

(Eagan, MN)  — The current commissioner of the NFL will be sticking around for at least the next several seasons.  Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay commented from the league’s spring meeting on Tuesday that the owners are extending Roger Goodell’s contract through 2027.  The commissioner’s contract has been discussed by the owners, but nothing has been finalized.  Goodell said the notion of splitting the commissioner duties into two roles is a talking point.  ESPN reported in March that Goodell is expected to finalize a multiyear extension.  The 64-year-old’s current contract runs to 2024.

>>NFL Changes Fair Catch Rule On Kickoffs

(Eagan, MN)  — The NFL is making a major rule change on kickoffs.  Owners approved a fair catch adjustment which allows the receiving team to start on the 25-yard line, regardless of where the ball is caught.  The rule only applies to kickoffs: the offense will continue to start wherever a punt is fair caught.  The league has been phasing out “pop-up” kickoffs in an effort to reduce hard hits.  League executives hope the concussion rate on kickoffs drops by 15-percent with the new change.
