Sylvia to be commanding general for 101st Airborne Division

The 101st Airborne Division Air Assault and Fort Campbell has a new commander, as Major General Brett Sylvia has been assigned to serve in that position.

He will replace Major General JP McGee and heads to Fort Campbell from Washington, D.C. where he served as vice director for the Joint Staff. This is not the first time Sylvia has been at Fort Campbell—he served as Chief of Staff for the 101st Airborne in 2018, Commander of Task Force STRIKE and 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division, and he’s had numerous other assignments, including as Junior Military Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of Defense.

His military awards and decorations include six Legions of Merit, six Bronze Star Medals including one for Valor, Purple Heart, and four Army Commendation Medals, including one for Valor. He also served as a member of units that earned the Presidential Unit Citation, three Joint Meritorious Unit Awards, three Meritorious Unit Citations, and an Army Superior Unit Award.
