The Reds have lost four straight and are last in the NL Central at 19-and-27. The Reds start a four-game series against the Cardinals at home tonight. (St. Louis, MO) — Oscar Mercado knocked in five runs as the Cardinals defeated the Dodgers 10-5 at Busch Stadium. Mercado finished three-for-four at the plate, while Paul DeJong homered and plated four runs in the victory. Drew VerHagen collected the win in relief after starter Jack Flaherty gave up three runs over four-and-two-thirds frames. St. Louis won the four-game series and improved to 21-and-27. Jordan Montgomery starts for St. Louis against Cincinnati tonight.

(Houston, TX) — Framber Valdez tossed a complete game shutout as the Astros blanked the Athletics 2-0 in Houston. Valdez allowed just four hits and struck out seven batters to improve to 4-and-4 on the mound. Jose Altuve knocked in a run and also drew a pair of walks in the victory. Houston swept the three-game series and has won seven straight. The Astros improved to 27-and-19. James Kaprielian was charged the loss after giving up one run over five frames. Oakland managed just three runs in the three-game road series as it dropped to 10-and-38.
