Three public restrooms in Hopkinsville will be closed to the public until further notice starting Friday, following incidents of vandalism to those facilities.
According to a news release, the Parks and Recreation Department will close the restrooms at Joe Mumford Park Pavilion, 2nd Street Park Building, and DeBow Recreational Complex. Those facilities have all been the targets of recent vandalism.
While security measures have been put in place to minimize attacks of this kind, these three facilities continue to be targeted. To prevent additional vandalism and misuse, the restrooms will be closed permanently, only to be opened during reserved events.
Superintendent Toby Hudson says, βIt is unfortunate that the actions of a few will remove the use of these facilities from the general community. The continued vandalism of these three locations has become excessive to the point where closure is the best option to protect the public property.β
If anyone suspects or has witnessed anyone involved in vandalizing park restrooms or facilities, they are asked to contact the Hopkinsville Police Department.
