Mayor Knight speaks with Kiwanis Club on plans for the future of Hopkinsville

The Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville got a visit from Mayor J.R. Knight at Thursday’s meeting as he spoke upon the state of the city and what he would like to see happen in the future.

Mayor Knight says he remains focused on cleaning up the city, from the streets to the buildings, and he’s hopeful to find ways to fund that endeavor and make it happen.

The mayor recently presented his budget proposal—which still awaits approval from city council—and it included cuts to some departments and programs that he says will be reviewed closely to see what is working and what isn’t.

He says they’re also looking into avenues of improving the quality of rental properties in the community, to both increase the quality of life of those living here and attracting new families to the area.

The mayor says they are still waiting to see what their options will be as it comes to the Phoenix Building downtown, along with currently undergoing a zoning review through the Zoning Commission across the city.
