MLB Roundup 5/17/23

>>Cardinals Fall To Brewers

(St. Louis, MO)  —  The Cardinals left the winning run on base to end a 3-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at Busch Stadium.  Willson Contreras hit a two-out double to put the tying run in scoring position before Nolan Arenado was intentionally walked.  However, Paul DeJong grounded out to end the game.  Nolan Arenado homered in the losing effort, while Jordan Montgomery was charged with his sixth loss after surrendering three runs on eight hits in five-and-a-third innings.  St. Louis remains in last place in the NL Central at 17-and-26.  Matthew Liberatore makes his first start of the season when the Cardinals take on Milwaukee again tonight.

>>O’Neill To Start Rehab Assignment

(St. Louis, MO)  —  Tyler O’Neill is inching his way back to the Cardinals line-up.  The outfielder will begin a minor league rehab assignment tomorrow.  O’Neill has been on the 10-day injured list since straining his lower back on May 5th.  The Cardinals haven’t announced which affiliate O’Neill will play for during his assignment.  The 27-year-old is hitting .228 with two home runs and six RBI in 29 games this season.

>>Reds Edge Rockies To Even Series

(Denver, CO)  —  The Reds edged the Rockies 3-1 to even their three-game series in Denver.  Brandon Williamson was terrific in his major league debut and surrendered one run on just two hits over five-plus innings.  Derek Law was credited with the win in relief.  Nick Senzel blasted a two-run homer for Cincy, which improved to 19-and-23.  The team is tied for third in the NL Central.  The Red will try to win the series this afternoon.  Graham Ashcraft gets the start opposite Austin Gomber.
