Man arrested on strangulation, assault charges

Hopkinsville police charged a man with strangulation and assault following an alleged incident from Monday afternoon on Hazel Street.

Officers spoke to the victim Monday night at Jennie Stuart Medical Center and she said her boyfriend, 35-year old Donald Howard of Hopkinsville, had punched her repeatedly and choked her until she believed she would pass out.

The woman said she and Howard had been arguing about him drinking too much and that he attacked her when she tried to distance herself from him.

Police say the victim had visible injuries, including bruising on her eye and finger marks on her neck.

Investigators found Howard at the home on Hazel and the arrest citation says he had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.

He was arrested and charged with first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault, in addition to being served with a probation violation warrant.
