Man arrested for felony assault, wanton endangerment after incident with gun

A Hopkinsville man is facing felony assault and wanton endangerment charges after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at a man and struck him with it during an altercation on Tanglewood Drive Monday morning.

The arrest citation for 41-year old Nicholas O’Neil of Hopkinsville says he pointed his gun at the victim and demanded he leave the property. When the victim slipped in mud and fell, O’Neil allegedly struck him twice with the buttstock of the gun—causing injuries to his back and face.

As the victim attempted to drive away in his truck, O’Neil allegedly struck the window of the vehicle, shattering it.

O’Neil fled the scene and was located later in the evening by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office on Dogwood Kelly Road, where he was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment and second-degree criminal mischief.

The disturbance happened outside of a home on Tanglewood that was damaged in a fire last week.
