Attorney still hopeful for resolution in North Elm St. shooting case

The attorney representing the suspect accused of shooting a woman in May of 2021 on North Elm Street says efforts continue to resolve the case.

David Rye represents 26-year old Marshawn Taylor of Hopkinsville and told the court Monday he will be meeting with the local Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office soon to see if a resolution can be agreed upon outside of trial.

Judge Andrew Self scheduled a June 19 pre-trial hearing.

Taylor allegedly shot 27-year old Marka Smith of Owensboro in the wrist and hip while she was sitting in a vehicle in the 100 block of North Elm in May of 2021. He’s charged with assault in the first-degree, first-degree wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
