The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville is taking part in National Salvation Army Week with celebrations and a kick-off event was held Monday morning.
A proclamation was read by Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam and Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight, there were performances and testimonies, as attendees learned more about the efforts and mission of the Salvation Army. Lt. Lindsey Galabeas says this week is about recognizing their partner agencies, volunteers, clients and hard-working staff.
She says they stay very busy, serving food through their soup kitchen, providing needed groceries, hosting church services and providing a place of hope and compassion to those who need it most.
They’ll be handing out volunteer awards Tuesday at noon at Ruff Park at a celebration service, and then Friday they’ll have Customer Appreciation Day at their thrift store.
Lt. Galabeas says their clients have numerous and many differing reasons for why they come to the Salvation Army but ultimately, the need is clear in Hopkinsville, and they are grateful to serve the community in any way they can.
