Man arrested after early morning pursuit

A man is facing eight separate charges following an early Thursday morning disturbance and vehicle pursuit.

Hopkinsville police were dispatched to a disturbance involving an intoxicated male at the East Ninth Street Huck’s about 1:45 a.m. and a Hopkinsville police officer made contact with the suspect—39-year old Karl Lofton of Hopkinsville—driving northbound on East Ninth near Woodmill Road minutes after the call.

Lofton allegedly sped up when lights and siren were activated, eventually turning onto Bryan Street and nearly striking several cars before finally coming to a stop.

The arrest citation says he struggled with the arresting officer, showed multiple signs of alcohol and performed poorly on field sobriety tests.

A search of his vehicle allegedly revealed marijuana.

Lofton was arrested and charged with fleeing or evading police, DUI, resisting arrest, wanton endangerment, possession of marijuana, speeding, disregarding a stop sign and reckless driving.
