Severe storms knock down trees, put hundreds in dark

Severe thunderstorms overnight caused minimal damage, but knocked out power to hundreds of area residents.

The largest outage this morning was in western Trigg County, where about 350 Pennyrile Electric members were restored at about 5:15 a.m.

There were still about 130 members in the dark as of about 5:30, with 64 in Todd County, 47 in Christian and 23 in Muhlenberg County.

A tree was blown onto lines and snapped a pole on Morningside Drive at Cayce Meade Drive early this morning and Todd County Dispatch reported a couple trees down from the weather overnight.

Hopkinsville Electric System General Manager Jeff Hurd reported scattered outages across the city with 200 to 300 customers still in the dark as of about 6 a.m. and the largest outage was related to the tree down on Morningside.

There were no reports of any injuries.
