The Hopkinsville Police Department is warning businesses against selling tobacco products to minors.
HPD says they received “multiple concerns about stores throughout the community, especially on Skyline Drive, to be selling tobacco products to minors.”
Officers conducted a detail May 5 and 6, which resulted in Valero on East Ninth Street and Minit Mart on Skyline Drive being cited.
A news release sys they want “community members to be aware of the situation” and that they “are diligently working on the issue with the assistance of other agencies.”
The Hopkinsville Police Department says they do not tolerate this type of behavior from businesses in the community and any that are found to be in violation will result in a citation.
They encourage parents to be mindful of things their child may be purchasing while stopping at gas stations or stores in the community. Things to look out for can include: cigarettes, cigarette tobacco, smokeless tobacco, E-cigarettes or other electronic nicotine delivery systems.
Anyone with concerns about businesses selling those products to minors can call HPD at 270-890-1300.
