>>100+ UI, ISU Athletes, Staff Involved In Gambling Investigation

 

(Undated)  — At least 125 athletes and athletics staff members from the University of Iowa and Iowa State University are involved in a sports gambling investigation.  UI says at least 26 athletes from baseball, football, wrestling, men’s basketball, and men’s track teams are involved.  ISU says at least 15 athletes from its football, track, and wrestling teams are involved.  Sports gambling is legal in Iowa, but the NCAA bans players from participating due to potential conflicts of interest.

 

>>Nuggets’ Jokic Fined, Not Suspended For Shoving Suns Owner

 

(New York, NY)  — The NBA is fining and not suspending Nuggets star Nikola Jokic following an incident with the Phoenix Suns owner on Sunday.  The league announced Jokic was fined 25-thousand dollars for shoving Matt Ishbia during Denver’s Game Four loss in Phoenix.

 

 

>>NFL Releases Full Schedule On Thursday

 

(Undated)  — The NFL will release its 2023 regular season schedule Thursday night.  The league previously announced the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots are hosting international games this season.  There will also be a Super Bowl rematch between the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.  For the first time in league history, teams can play on Thursday Night Football twice during the season.  Also, teams will not be guaranteed a prime time game.  Some games will be revealed on Wednesday ahead of the full release.

 

>>Jim Irsay Warns Teams About Contacting Luck

 

(Indianapolis, IN)  — The Colts want the rest of the league to know their former quarterback is not available.  After learning the availability of former signal caller Andrew Luck was the subject of an inquiry last year by the Washington Commanders, Colts’ owner Jim Irsay took to social media to warn teams about contacting the former first overall pick.  Irsay posted on Twitter, “If any NFL team attempted to contact Andrew Luck (or any associate of him)…to play for their Franchise — it would be a clear violation of the League’s Tampering Policy.”  Luck retired from the NFL before the 2019 season with three years remaining on his contract, which Indianapolis still owns the rights to.

 

 

>>Aaron Judge Returning From IL

 

(Bronx, NY)  — The Yankees are getting their captain back.  Reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge is set to return from the injured list on Tuesday.  Judge had been on the IL with a hip injury over the past week-plus.  The 31-year-old has not felt any pain in his hip in the past five days, and is undergoing warmups like normal before Monday’s series opener against the Oakland Athletics.  Before his stint on the injured list, Judge played in 26 games and was hitting .261 with six home runs, 14 RBI and an .863 OPS.  New York is currently last in the AL East.
