Arrest made in East 18th Street murder

An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal shooting from Wednesday afternoon on East 18th Street in Hopkinsville.

A call of shots fired came out about 1:15 p.m. at a home in the 300 block of East 18th and arriving Hopkinsville police officers found a female victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Christian County Coroner’s Office later identified her as 59-year old Dolores Hernandez of Hopkinsville.

Witnesses and security camera footage from the area identified a silver Chevy truck as leaving the scene after the shooting and a Black male with gray facial hair was seen walking towards the victim’s residence just moments before the shots fired call.

A news release from HPD says 65-year old Earl Guillemet of Hopkinsville was identified as a suspect and witnesses and video surveillance showed him throwing items away just after the shooting and detectives determined those items to be important to the investigation.

Police would also eventually recover the gun Guillemet allegedly used to kill Hernandez and he was arrested on charges of murder, tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

A criminal history check showed him to be a convicted felon since 1997, according to police.

He was arrested March 4 of this year for felony theft and in November of 2021 for strangulation and assault.

HPD thanked the Christian County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance in the investigation.
