The Christian County grand jury on Friday returned indictments for attempted murder of a police officer, assault and rape.

On March 3, Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy John Quarles attempted to stop a vehicle he knew to be reported stolen out of Hopkinsville on Old Madisonville Road, but Smith allegedly sped up and did not stop. Joshua Smith then wrecked out near the southern intersection with Madisonville Road and took off on foot, but was soon caught and arrested.
