Sharpe St. murder suspect seeking bond reduction

The attorney representing the alleged gunman in the October, 2021 fatal shooting of 23-year old Adrian Acree at Sharpe and Jones Street in Hopkinsville is asking for a bond reduction and a new trial date was set Wednesday morning in Christian Circuit Court.

Louisville attorney Rob Eggert is one of two lawyers for Cortez Hairston, Jr. and says he maintains his innocence and that the case has been delayed by the recent resignation of former Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling.

Special prosecutor Zach Greenwell argued the nature of the charge should necessitate keeping bond at $750,000.

Eggert requested a trial date and for bond to be reduced to 10 percent of $250,000.

He got an October 23 trial date, but Judge John Atkins said he’ll take the bond motion under advisement while he works to get information on the circumstances of the case.

A grand jury in April of last year indicted Hairston for murder and 24-year old Jaila Sherrod and 23-year old Dekorian Daniel for complicity to murder.
