The Southwestern Kentucky Economic Development Council has gotten to announce a lot of big news recently, and they gave brief updates to their Board of Directors Monday afternoon.
Executive Director Carter Hendricks says with big industries making numerous large announcements for the region—including Toyota Bushoku, Ascend Elements and Microvast, they’re looking to make sure there will be more announcements and economic development in the future. Microvast specifically is a huge investment locally, creating nearly 600 jobs.
Thursday will be the second annual Job Fest for local high school seniors, and Hendricks says it’s just one of the ways they’re helping both those looking for work and local industries.
The Commerce Park #2 rail site in Hopkinsville was recently designated as a CSX Select Site, and Hendricks says that just gives them even more resources to market the region.
Hendricks also highlighted their partnership with Kentucky Cornerstone, an initiative compromised of a dozen western Kentucky continues that is designed to not just market this area to industries and other developers, but also in Frankfort, to make sure western Kentucky isn’t left out of any decision making.
