A retired Todd County teacher who is involved in the community in many ways was recently recognized for her efforts.
At its recent state convention in Louisville, the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association presented Carolyn Wells with the Frank Hatfield Volunteer of the Year Award.
Jo Ann Holder is president of the Todd County Retired Teachers Association and notes that since Wells’ retirement from the Todd County School District, she has been involved in many community organizations and projects. She has used her talents to help raise money for projects to preserve Todd County’s history.
Wells has authored two “coffee table books” that raised thousands of dollars for the 1835 Todd County Courthouse second floor restoration and for the rehabilitation of the Green River Female Academy.
“T is for Todd County” and “Notables of Todd County” have become treasured keepsakes for families and friends sharing memories of Todd County.
Holder says, “Carolyn Wells is the first volunteer in the local chapter and in the third district to ever be awarded this honor. Carolyn’s strong belief in our past affects both our present and our future.”
