The 73rd WHOP Rotary Radio Auction has reached the halfway mark after three nights, with elementary schools reporting their fundraising efforts Wednesday night.
Those schools presented a record $38,700 and middle and high schools will report tonight.
A foundation grant of $8,000 was announced to establish Early Act clubs in four elementary schools: Crofton, South Christian, Indian Hills, and Pembroke.
The Rotary Club of Hopkinsville also presented a $12,000 foundation grant to Gateway Academy to renew its support of the “Industry All Stars” program.
Through three nights, Rotary has raised about $262,600—a little over $11,000 behind last year’s pace—and almost all of that deficit is in the Hour Club.
Official Local Historian and Rotarian William Turner has been set up at the War Memorial Building this week collecting cash donations of any amount to the Goat Club, reminding that it’s a tradition that goes back to the very first auction in the summer of 1951.
Rotary has helped thousands of local students attend college over the last seven decades and Turner says it’s all because of a community that supports the club’s efforts with their money.
Lunch is served each day through Friday from 11 until 1 at the War Memorial Building and dinner is served each night of the auction from 5 until 8.
The auction airs each evening beginning at 6 on 98.7 Lite FM, online at lite987whop.com, Spectrum Cable Channel 376 and on the Hopkinsville Rotary Facebook and YouTube pages.
