Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight and Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam stood on the steps of the Christian County Courthouse Wednesday afternoon as they proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
Sanctuary, Inc. Executive Director Heather Lancaster urged everyone on hand to be pro-active against sexual assault.
If someone tells you they’ve been a victim of assault or abuse, believe them and point them toward available help.
Lancaster says Sanctuary is the area’s rape crisis center and they’re available to help and support victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence.
The event coincided with Chalk the Walk, which is where folks around the region use chalk to write supportive messages to victims of sexual violence.
