>>Reds Blow Out Rays

(Cincinnati, OH)  —  The Reds blew out the Rays 8-1 in Cincinnati.  Kevin Newman crushed a solo homer and drove in another run while TJ Friedl had four RBI.  Hunter Greene left the game with a leg contusion after pitching just three innings.  Cincy improved to 7-and-9 and is fourth in the NL Central.  The Reds are back in action for game two tonight when Nick Lodolo takes the mound.

>>Cardinals Collapse In Seventh

(St. Louis, MO)  —  The St. Louis Cardinals surrendered five runs in the top of the seventh during a 6-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Busch Stadium.  The game was tied at one entering the frame before St. Louis surrendered a solo home run to Ketel Marte and gave up a grand slam to Pavin Smith.  Alec Burleson hit a two-run home run in the defeat, while Jack Flaherty was charged with his second loss after surrendering four runs in six innings.  St. Louis has dropped two of three, and the Cardinals are in last place in the NL Central at 7-and-10.

>>Wainwright To Start Rehab Assignment

(St. Louis, MO)  —  Adam Wainwright is getting closer to returning to the St. Louis Cardinals.  The team announced yesterday that Wainwright is expected to make a rehab start with the Springfield Cardinals tomorrow.  Manager Oli Marmol says that Wainwright is scheduled to throw 60 pitches.  The 41-year-old has missed the start of the season after straining his groin during the World Baseball Classic last month.  Wainwright announced before the season that 2023 would be his last year in the MLB.  He went 11-and-12 with a 3.71 ERA in 32 starts last season.

>>Braves Shutout Padres

(San Diego, CA)  —  The Braves cruised to their seventh straight win.  Atlanta shutout the San Diego Padres 2-0 at Petco Park.  Starting pitcher Max Fried struck out four over five scoreless innings in his season debut, while  A.J. Minter notched his fourth save of the season.  Austin Riley hit his fourth home run of the season and drove in a pair of runs in the win.  The Braves sit atop the NL East at 13-and-4.  Right-hander Spencer Strider gets the starting nod tonight against San Diego.  In other news, reliever Lucas Luetge was placed on the 15-day injured list.

(Undated)  —  The Redbirds, Sounds and Bats all begin new six-game series tonight.  Memphis hosts Indianapolis, Nashville is in Jacksonville and Louisville plays host to Charlotte.  Memphis is coming off a sweep of Gwinnett and improved to 10-and-5.  Nashville split their series with Norfolk and is 8-and-7.  Louisville dropped four-of-five against Toledo and is 3-and-11.
