The Commodores to headline second night of Summer Salute

Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation has announced The Commodores will headline Saturday night of the 7th Annual Summer Salute Festival.

A news release says The Commodores bring their unique Motown sound for a free main stage concert to wrap up the award-winning festival and complete the expanded second night of major headliners in downtown Hopkinsville.

For the first time Summer Salute will feature a doubleheader of major artists on the Justice Center Stage. Last week it was announced that the classic rock of STARSHIP, featuring Mickey Thomas, will headline Friday night.

The Commodores were Motown’s largest selling act throughout the 70s and 80s, and they racked up a string of hits including “Machine Gun”, “Brick House”, “Easy”, “Three Times A Lady”, “Sail On”, “Oh No”, “Slippery When Wet”, “To Hot Ta Trot”, and many others that literally moved an entire generation.

The Commodores formed in 1968 while the individual members attended college at Tuskegee Institute. They quickly made a name for themselves, catching the eye of the Jackson 5 and Berry Gordy, and going on to sell over 60 million records for Motown.

Summer Salute is set for August 25-26 in downtown Hopkinsville and will also feature plenty of food and vendor selections, in addition to rides and activities for children.
