Several local students have been selected for the Governor’s Scholars and Governor’s School for the Arts programs.
The students chosen will participate this summer in an intensive, all-immersive 5-week learning experience on one of three Kentucky college campuses.
According to the Governor’s Scholars Program website, the program originated in 1983 as a result of Kentucky leaders’ concerns that the state’s “best and brightest” were leaving the Commonwealth to pursue educational and career opportunities elsewhere without fully understanding the potential of their talents at home.
Elijah Boehman, Dominique Davie, and Kimberlyn Harned of Christian County High School were selected, in addition to Kendall Mayes, Caroline Payne, and Martin Nguyen from Hopkinsville High School. Selected as an alternate to the program was Kylie Batts, from Hopkinsville High School.
From Heritage Christian Academy, Grace Crawford and Jazzlyn Blanchard were chosen for the honor, as were Ava Colburn, Evelyn Cotthoff, Addi Fourqurean, Prit Patel and Peyton Porpupski from University Heights Academy.
Meanwhile, UHA students Rachel Cavanah, Matthew Couch and Luke Humphries were selected to the Governor’s School for the Arts. Participants in that program go through a rigorous process and make up 200 of Kentucky’s finest artists each year.
