A Fort Campbell soldier who lived in Christian County was killed in a small plane crash over the weekend in North Carolina.

The Cherokee County, North Carolina Sheriff’s Office says   36-year old Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert “Bobby” Ibrahim was the lone occupant of the single-engine aircraft that crashed shortly after departing Western Carolina Regional Airport near Andrews about 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

A representative of the North Carolina Highway Patrol told local media it appeared the plane experienced some type of mechanical issue before crashing into a large pasture.

The National Transportation Safety Board called the plane a ‘Homebuilt Velocity aircraft’ in a tweet.

Fort Campbell officials confirm Ibrahim was a ‘Night Stalker,’ assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. He joined the army in 2005 and arrived at Fort Campbell in 2019.
