UHA celebrates 50 years

Alumni, students and former and current faculty and staff spent Saturday morning and night celebrating 50 years of University Heights Academy in Hopkinsville.

The day began with an open house, where many alumni toured the relatively new high school addition for the first time.

Admissions Director Tammy Staley also taught at UHA many years and has been at the school for over 30 years. She says the family atmosphere has been key for the school that began in 1973 with an uncertain future to grow over the last half-century and to firmly establish its place in the community.

She says the number of families choosing UHA continues to grow and the future is bright for the school.

The celebrations concluded Saturday night with a ceremony at the historic Alhambra Theatre that honored the faculty and staff who have made UHA what it is over the last 50 years, including Marvin Denison, who has been at the school for nearly 50 years as headmaster, teacher and many other official and unofficial capacities.

Denison was presented with a plaque commemorating his lifetime of service and commitment to UHA and it will be permanently displayed at the entrance to the high school.
