Christian County Sheriff’s Major Jason Newby will begin his tenure as chief at the Hopkinsville Police Department Monday, but says he’s proud of the work he’s been part of at the sheriff’s office the last four years.
He says he’s excited for the opportunity at HPD, but there are mixed feelings about leaving his current job as chief deputy to Sheriff Tyler DeArmond.
Newby is also retired from Kentucky State Police and could choose to stay at home and take it easy, but says he feels law enforcement is a calling he isn’t ready to give up.
Once he gets to HPD, Newby says he will be eager to gather input from the public about how they feel the department can improve.
Newby will replace the retiring Chief Clayton Sumner.
