NWS says straight line winds caused local damage

A National Weather Service survey team determined straight line winds caused the major damage Friday night in Hopkinsville.

The survey report says peak winds reached 80-85 mph and as high as 90 mph in some places.

Those winds were enough to knock down trees and tree branches, blow windows out of buildings and cause upstairs outer walls to collapse on two downtown buildings.

There was one person who sustained relatively minor injuries when a tree fell onto a home.

Numerous homes also had shingle, siding and gutter damage.

Those winds caused the damage between 10:49 and 10:54 p.m., according to the report.
