Probation was denied Wednesday morning in Christian Circuit Court for Isaiah Campbell, one of the men charged in connection with an armed home invasion at the Glass Avenue residence of Charles “Bird Dog” Paige.
The 20-year old entered an Alford plea last month to second-degree robbery, second-degree assault and felony theft by unlawful taking as part of a deal that comes with a 10-year total sentence.
An Alford plea allows a defendant to not admit guilt, while acknowledging there’s likely enough evidence for a conviction if the case were to go to trial.
The assault charge was for an August 2 incident at the Christian County Jail where Campbell and two other men attacked another inmate by kicking and punching him while he was curled up on the floor, giving him a concussion.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen opposed probation for Campbell, noting he had three separate cases that showed a pattern of conduct.
Judge John Atkins agreed, sentencing Campbell to 10 years in prison.
Meanwhile, Korey Zivotin is a co-defendant in the robbery case and attorney Jason Holland filed a motion to reduce his bond. Commonwealth’s Attorney Bolen reminded that Zivotin was already out on probation when the robbery happened and agreed with Holland that they’re working on a potential plea agreement.
Judge Atkins declined to rule on the bond motion until the parties determine if they can find a resolution.
Another hearing was set for April 26.
