Christian Fiscal Court talks internet expansion, grants

Christian Fiscal Court didn’t take long to get through a routine agenda Tuesday morning.

In the way of information, Magistrate Russ Guffey told the court that the HES and Pennyrile Electric broadband internet expansion is being slowed in some cases due to the state requiring them to seek approval to cross state highways with their lines.

Fiscal Court agreed to act as a pass-through as Hopkinsville Public Works seeks a $49,000 grant to resurface a small portion of Nelson Drive with rubber-modified asphalt, with Dave Herndon saying they’re eager to see how it performs compared to traditional asphalt.

A pass-through grant acceptance was approved for the local YMCA, which will spend about $63,000 to update lighting at its facility on the Eagle Way Bypass.

Christian County Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace reported another good month and noted they’re having an animal adoption event Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Respawn Coffee Shop in Oak Grove.
