A Warren County teen is the winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee regional qualifying event Sunday afternoon at the Alhambra Theatre.
The top three participants advance to Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. and they will be first place winner Ian Gibson of Bowling Green, Noah Brumfield of Madisonville and Isabella Carver of Hanson.
Visit Hopkinsville will be giving each competitor a $500 stipend to assist with the travel.
The championship-clinching word for Gibson was permafrost.
Officials with Visit Hopkinsville say the event will be back in 2024.
