Several awards and recognitions were presented Thursday morning at the Christian County Agri-Business Association Salute to Agriculture Breakfast.
Warren Beeler is the former executive director of the Governor’s Office of Ag. Policy and was the keynote speaker, saying the industry needs more passionate people willing to learn and advocate.
The Farmer of the Year Award went to Robert Gray and the Friend of Agriculture Award was presented to longtime local agri-businessman Alvin Schmitt.
Hutson, Inc. received the Agri-Business of the Year Award in memory of Kendall Irwin, who died last year from cancer and who had worked at Hutson for 40 years.
Kentucky American Seed founder Charles Petty, who also appeared regularly on the WHOP Early Bird Show for over 40 years, received the Distinguished Service Award.
Over $32,000 has been raised for the Troy Goode Scholarship fund to support local 4H and FFA students entering college and Andrew Wilson with the local Rotary Club says they’re making their next pathway for agriculture through that fund in hopes of eventually raising $100,000.
The country ham auction ended with H&R Agri-Power, Hutson, Inc. and Farm Credit Services combined for the final $30,000 bid, which will go to local 4H and FFA programs.
