Hopkinsville Salvation Army to return to pre-COVID shelter operations

The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville will return to their pre-COVID shelter operations.

According to a news release, the Salvation army had been operating during the evening and overnight hours Monday through Saturday and the bulk of Sundays, but had to quickly switch to a 24/7 schedule to accommodate those that had nowhere to go during the day during the pandemic. Emergency funding from the government helped keep the shelter open constantly for nearly three years.

Beginning on March 29, the shelter’s hours of operation will be—open every evening from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 a.m. at the conclusion of breakfast service. The except will be Sundays, when the shelter will open at 12 p.m.

Lt. Lindsey Galabeas says, “We are grateful for the three years of funding that we did receive and our ability to be open 24/7 during that time period. We will endeavor to offer the highest level of services and dignity possible even with our return to pre-COVID operations. Additionally, we will keep looking for opportunities and avenues of funding that will allow us to open 24/7 once again.”
