The Christian County Literacy Council will recognize the winners of the 2023 bell hooks Writing Contest on Sunday at the Christian County Middle School Performing Arts Center at 3 p.m.
According to a news release, eighty entries were received from Christian and surrounding counties, with writers from ages 5 and into adulthood. The categories of poetry, short stories, and essays were written on the theme “Belonging” and first and second place winners in each of the four age categories will be invited to read their selection.
The program will also include a vocal performance by UHA student Lucy LeBlanc and a piano performance by Christian County Literacy Council board member Beth Brockman.
bell hooks’ sister, Gwenda Motley, will read an excerpt from bell’s book Belonging: A Culture of Place and provide remarks. A publication with all entries will be available to preorder—for more information on the publication, visit the Christian County Literacy Council on Facebook.
