Documents under review in Hazel Street murder case

Trial is still set to take place on April 3 for murder suspect Leon Grimes at the moment, but some surprise documents were the topic of discussion during a pretrial hearing Wednesday in Christian Circuit Court.

Grimes is represented by defense attorney Ted Shouse, who informed the court that with the recent appointment of Stephanie Bolen to serve as commonwealth’s attorney, she discovered some documents that could be of interest to the defense, but he needs some time to go over them.

Shouse says he still intends to go to trial in April, but he would like to see what these documents contain before making any decisions.  Judge Andrew Self set another pretrial hearing for March 29 with the hope the issue of the documents will be solved at that time.

Grimes is alleged to have shot Calvin Buckner in the chest at a party on Hazel Street in July of 2021.
