Two local state House members split on sports betting issue

With four days left until the veto recess, members of the Kentucky General Assembly are having to make their final decisions on whether they’ll support some potentially controversial bills that have yet to receive a full-chamber vote.

On the issue of legalizing sports betting in Kentucky, Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke says he will support the legislation if it comes up for a full House vote.

Representative Walker Thomas has been against any expanded gambling and says he will vote against it.

Senator Whitney Westerfield is hopeful legislation legalizing medical marijuana for Kentuckians who have a qualifying medical condition will receive a hearing this week in committee.

Legislators will meet Monday through Thursday this week in Frankfort before adjourning for the veto recess.
