Princeton man who allegedly pointed gun at police and EMT’s arrested

The Princeton man who allegedly pointed a gun at police and medical personnel before shooting himself in the leg last week has been released from the hospital and arrested.

As previously reported, Princeton police were called to a home in the 500 block of East Shephardson Street about 7 p.m. Monday, March 6 after 70-year old Richard Oliver allegedly brandished a firearm at emergency medical personnel who responded to a call at the residence.

A news release says officers and deputies approached the home and Oliver allegedly pointed a gun at officers and then barricaded himself inside his residence.

For approximately three hours and forty-five minutes officers and negotiators attempted to communicate with Oliver to negotiate a peaceful resolution. At about 10:45 p.m. officers could hear Oliver calling for help from inside the residence.

They observed Oliver laying in the floor with an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. Police immediately entered and began administering life saving measures and secured the scene for EMS to respond. The gunshot wound was self-inflicted and officials said it is unknown if it was intentional or accidental.

Oliver was transported by ambulance to Caldwell County Hospital and later transferred to Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.

On Friday, Oliver was arrested and served with a warrant for five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, two counts of menacing and terroristic threatening.
