Rep. Dossett’s psychiatric patient visitors measure passes House Floor

Legislation sponsored by state Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke passed the House this week and it would allow residents in psychiatric residential treatment facilities to designate essential personal care visitors.

Representative Dossett says HB 156 states those facilities that treat children would be required to allow a parent to visit them.

Current regulations do not allow personal care providers as visitors within psychiatric facilities; however, similar provisions were implemented in 2022 to accommodate the care needs of nursing facilities.

The measure passed the House Floor unanimously and is headed to the Senate for consideration.
