Week 6 of General Assembly session begins Tuesday

With only eight days of session left before the Kentucky General Assembly 2023 ‘veto recess,’ lawmakers will be back in Frankfort Tuesday with a sense of urgency.

The House Health Services Committee forwarded on House Bill 101 last week, as it would ban Kentucky Board of Education from requiring students to get the COVID-19 vaccination to attend school and state Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke says he’ll support it if it gets a full House vote.

State Representative Walker Thomas is supporting legislation that could mean negative consequences for hospitals that perform gender altering procedures on juveniles.

Senate Bill 4 is headed to the House and Senator Whitney Westerfield says it would require power providers under the purview of the Kentucky Public Service Commission to take any plans to shut down a coal-powered plant to that PSC for consideration as concerns grow over the grid following December’s rolling blackouts.

Lawmakers meet Tuesday through Friday this week and Monday through Thursday of next week before recessing until March 29, when they will have an opportunity to override any of Governor Andy Beshear’s vetoes.
