Kentucky Begins SEC Tournament as No. 3 Seed on Friday
The Kentucky men’s basketball team will be the No. 3 seed in the annual Southeastern Conference Tournament when action begins Wednesday in Nashville, Tennessee. The Wildcats, who earned the coveted double bye, will play on Friday in Nashville at approximately 9 p.m. ET. Kentucky completed its 2022-23 regular season on Saturday with an impressive victory over Arkansas on the road behind 37 points from Antonio Reeves. The Cats concluded the season with a 21-10 overall record and 12-6 mark in the SEC. UK eclipsed a 20-win season for an NCAA-leading 66th time this season. The Wildcats are seeking their seventh SEC Tournament championship under head coach John Calipari and 32nd overall. UK will need two wins to advance to its ninth SEC Tournament title game in the last 13 tournaments played.
After 75-60 Loss at UVA, UofL Prepares for ACC Tournament
With the regular season behind them, the Cardinals will enter play in next week’s ACC Tournament as the No. 15 seed. They’ll face No. 10 seed Boston College in the opening round at 4:30 p.m. ET Tuesday in Greensboro, N.C.
No. 4 Cardinals Tripped up by No. 3 Hokies, 75-67
The No. 4 seed Louisville women’s basketball team fell just short of its second-ever ACC Tournament Championship as it dropped to the No. 3 seed Virginia Tech, 75-67. Chrislyn Carr led the Cards offensively with a team-high 27 points on 10-of-21 shooting and she hit three shots from behind the arc. The 27 points are the second-most by a Louisville player in the ACC Tournament. Mykasa Robinson has been all over the glass in Greensboro and she led the Cards with nine boards to go with eight points and two assists. Robinson tallied 25 rebounds across the three games this weekend. Olivia Cochran was in double figures for the fourth-straight game with 11 points. The Cardinals were well represented on the ACC All-Tournament teams. Mykasa Robinson, Hailey Van Lith and Chrislyn Carr were all named to the first team and Olivia Cochran was named to the second team. The four players on the All-Tournaments team were the most by any school this weekend.
Hale and Nelson’s career outings lead Govs to first ASUN Championship victory
Shamarre Hale and Anala Nelson combined for 41 points as the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball earned its first-ever ASUN Conference Championship victory in a 73-55 win against Eastern Kentucky, Sunday, in the Winfield Dunn Center. The Unanimous ASUN Sixth Player of the Year and a Second Team All-Conference selection, Hale led Austin Peay (17-11, 12-6 ASUN) with a game-high 23 points and matched her season-high mark with 13 rebounds in the win. The Chicago, Illinois native also tallied a career-high nine free throws on 10 attempts, which are the most by a Gov this season. Nelson finished second in the game with 18 points – the most by a freshman in a postseason game in over 15 seasons. Her seven made field goals and 70.0 field-goal percentage also were career-best marks.
