A man charged with several felonies including attempted murder of a police officer appeared Monday afternoon in Christian District Court.
Arraignment was held for 33-year old Joshua Smith of Crofton, with Judge Foster Cotthoff entering a not guilty plea on his behalf and leaving his bond at $115,000.
Christian County Sheriff’s Major Jason Newby says Deputy John Quarles attempted to stop a vehicle he knew to be reported stolen out of Hopkinsville on Old Madisonville Road Friday evening, but Smith allegedly sped up and did not stop.
He allegedly swerved the stolen car toward Lt. Scott Smith, who was standing outside of his cruiser, before running into the vehicle of Sheriff Tyler DeArmond.
Joshua Smith then wrecked out near the southern intersection with Madisonville Road and took off on foot, but was soon caught and arrested.
In addition to attempted murder of a police officer, he’s charged with fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, felony receiving stolen property, reckless driving, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and several other counts.
