Spring Training Round the Bases

>>Cubs Take Down Mariners

(Mesa, AZ)  — The Cubs scored five times in the bottom of the fourth en route to a 5-3 win over the Seattle Mariners in Spring Training.  Former MVP Cody Bellinger had two hits in the victory.  Hayden Wesneski gave up just one hit in two scoreless innings.  Chicago is 2-and-4 in exhibition play.  The Cubs host Oakland today.

>>Reds Tie with Athletics; Play White Sox Tomorrow

(Goodyear, AZ)  — An explosive eighth inning earned the Reds a 14-14 tie with the Athletics in their spring training game.  The team plated 10 runs in the bottom half of the frame as Christian Encarnacion-Strand blasted a grand slam as part of the offensive onslaught.  Graham Ashcraft struggled in his start and gave up two runs over two innings.  Cincinnati will play the White Sox tomorrow in Phoenix.

>>Cardinals Host Astros

(Jupiter, FL)  — The Cardinals continue Spring Training with a game against the Houston Astros at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium today.  The Cardinals are 3-and-1 in exhibition play this spring.  Adam Wainwright mans the rubber for the second time for St. Louis, while Houston counters with Framber Valdez.

>>Braves Continue Spring Training

(North Port, FL)  — The Braves are continuing their Grapefruit League action.  Atlanta tied the Tampa Bay Rays 3-3 in North Port yesterday.  Justin Dean stole two bases, scored two runs and had one RBI to lead Atlanta on a slow day at the plate.  The Braves are now 1-2-and-2 this spring.  They will visit the New York Mets this afternoon in Port St. Lucie.  In other team news, catcher Chadwick Tromp was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett.  Right-handed pitchers Blake Burkhalter, Roel Ramirez and Brooks Wilson have all been reassigned to minor league camp.
