Boys Region Two Quarterfinals got underway last night.
Game one saw Christian County, unluckily, face off with what many considered to be the best of the three possible runner-up draws; Webster County.
The Colonels got started quickly with a three on the opening possesion from Jordan Miles and carried the lead through the half and to the end of the third quarter.
With just a 40-34 lead heading into the fourth however, things certainly were not looking great for the Christian County.
While yes, they had not trailed in the ball game, the Trojans had seemed to find a new wind, especially Dashawn Murphy, and had kept the Colonels from getting to a double digit lead the majority of the way.
Not to mention Derrell Bateman was struggling with cramps and overall the Colonels were having to closely monitor their foul situation.
Luckily, JaSean Riley did what he does best, adapted to the role needed in the moment and after hitting a big three in the third to open up the floor, continued his scoring into the fourth with six of his eleven coming in the final frame.
Miles and Bateman finished with sixteen a piece, Miles had eight in each half, garnering the player of the game for his consistency.
Meanwhile their opponent for Monday evening would be determined in the following game, and it went very differently.
The Storm of Hopkins County Central had to look across the hardwood at the region favorite, Lyon County, and do everything they could to keep them at bay.
It quickly became apparent that the Storm could not stop the three-headed Lyon attack of Travis Perry, Jack Reddick, and Brady Shoulders, so they better outscore them.
Hopkins County Central tried their best, looking like cinderella team during march madness, making fifteen threes and scoring seventy-five points. This went well beyond their average per game of 64.
Unfortunately, it was just one of those nights where the big three were playing on another level in terms of their ability to find each other with little to no effort. A combined 84 of their teams 109 points came from Perry, Reddick, and Shoulders, with 32, 29, and 23 respectively.
A 109-75 win for the Lyons almost felt like a message in what they are capable of, as they advance to Monday nights semifinal against the Colonels.
Tip-Off will be at six pm, with pre-game at 5:45 on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP.
