The Christian County School Board approved a bid for weapons detection systems at the high schools at Thursday’s meeting, along with setting a graduation date for this school year.
The date of Friday, May 26 for graduation had unanimous approval from the board, and Director of Pupil Personnel Melanie Barrett says Christian County High School would go first at 5 p.m. at the Stadium of Champions and Hopkinsville High School would follow at 8:30 p.m.
The board also approved a renewed bid for weapons detection systems to be placed at both high schools and the Bluegrass Learning Academy. Director of Technology Jason Wilson recommended they approve the bid from ER Wireless, saying that system has all of the up-to-date technology and features they want to help keep students and staff safe.
Board Chair Tom Bell says they’re committed to having the best technology possible protecting their schools, to try and keep the worst from happening.
The board approved the bid, which had been previously set at a cost of $890,000 from a prior approval during a special-called board meeting that had to be rescinded due to unclear language in the master purchasing agreement with the state that made it so the system had to be put out for bid.
