The Cats have won four in a row and have seemingly locked up a bid in the NCAA Tournament. Toppin knows that the Cats are peaking at the right time. Kentucky, Florida Rematch in SEC Tournament First Round
The 14th-seeded University of Kentucky women’s basketball program will rematch No. 11 Florida in the 2023 Southeastern Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament First Round on Wednesday, March 1 at approximately 1:30 p.m. ET inside Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. Kentucky concluded the regular season with a 10-18 overall record and a 2-14 Southeastern Conference record. Robyn Benton, a graduate guard from Conyers, Georgia, led Kentucky and wrapped up the season ranked fifth in the league in both points per game (16.7) and points per game in conference action (17.1). Junior Maddie Scherr (14.9) and sophomore Jada Walker (12.1) are also averaging double-digit scoring in conference action. Walker ended the regular season as the SEC leader in steals (68), while Scherr ended the regular season as one of only two players in the league that has at least 110 assists (110) and 55 steals (55). Kentucky also boasts the first-, second- and third-best free-throw shooters in the conference, including Scherr (1st, 91.8%), Walker (2nd, 83.0) and Benton (3rd, 82.5).
Robinson & Van Lith Earn All-ACC Honors; Van Lith Named a Finalist for the Drysdale Award
University of Louisville guards Mykasa Robinson and Hailey Van Lith both earned All-ACC honors, the conference announced Tuesday night. Van Lith was named to the First Team All-ACC for the second-straight season and Robinson was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team for the third-straight season. Hailey Van Lith was named one of five finalists for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday afternoon. The award honors the nation’s top shooting guard and Van Lith is the first Louisville finalist for the award since Dana Evans back in 2021. The Cardinals have had a Drysdale Finalist in five of the last six seasons.
Cardinals Fall to Virginia Tech in Home Finale
A scoring drought at a crucial time kept Louisville men’s basketball from completing a comeback in a 71-54 loss to Virginia Tech on Senior Night at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals (4-26, 2-17 ACC) cut a double-digit deficit to three with 9:08 remaining, but then allowed the Hokies to go on a 14-0 run that put the game out of reach. Grant Basile led Virginia Tech with 18 points and seven rebounds. Ellis and redshirt freshman guard/forward Mike James had 14 points each for Louisville. Traynor added nine points, six rebounds and two blocks.
Anderson Earns All-MVC Scholar Team Honor
Murray State’s Quincy Anderson was honored with a spot on the Missouri Valley Conference All-Scholar-Athlete Team as Honorable Mention for men’s basketball.
