Wednesday begins Kentucky’s Severe Weather Awareness Week and the National Weather Service in Paducah and area emergency officials gathered Tuesday morning to urge residents to be prepared.
March, April and May are traditionally some of the most active months for severe weather in this region and Warning Coordination Meteorologist Christine Wielgos says that’s why it’s important to have a plan of action and to have a way to receive warnings.
The Kentucky statewide tornado drill is Wednesday morning at 9:07 and they hope families and workplaces will use the occasion to actually enact their plan for when a tornado warning is issued.
Listeners to the WHOP Family of Stations will hear the Emergency Alert System interrupt regular programming for the tornado drill and Christian and many surrounding counties will test their tornado sirens for the drill.
