Oscar Tshiebwe Takes Home SEC Player of the Week Honors

Kentucky men’s basketball senior forward Oscar Tshiebwe produced one of the best offensive weekly performances in program history en route to a pair of victories for the Wildcats and Southeastern Conference Player of the Week accolades. Tshiebwe averaged 23.5 points per game and shot 87% (20-23) from the field in wins at Florida and over Auburn. The award is the sixth weekly SEC honor for a Wildcat this season. Tshiebwe previously earned SEC Player of the Week honors on Jan. 23, while Cason Wallace has garnered SEC Freshman of the Week honors three times this season and Chris Livingston was the Freshman of the Week just a week ago.

Cardinals Host Virginia Tech on Senior Night

Louisville men’s basketball heads into its home finale against Virginia Tech at 9 p.m. ET Tuesday at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals will honor seniors El Ellis and Sydney Curry at approximately 8:40 p.m. before the game, which will air on the ACC Network. Louisville took a pair of road losses at Duke and Georgia Tech last week, but won its last home game over Clemson on Feb. 18. Virginia Tech fell 81-65 at Duke on Saturday. The Cardinals are 36-9 all-time against Virginia Tech, including 19-3 at home. Louisville had won 17 straight in the series until a 75-43 road loss last season.

Nelson named ASUN Freshman of the Week

After averaging 9.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team’s final week of the regular season, Anala Nelson was named the ASUN Conference Freshman of Week, Monday. Nelson recorded career-highs with 15 points and six rebounds, leading the Governors to a 76-71 win at Lipscomb, Thursday, in Nashville. The 5-6 freshman also tallied her second-most assists of the season with four dimes and added a pair of steals. Nelson’s 15 points against the Bisons are the most by a freshman in a conference game since Ella Sawyer scored 26 points against Murray State, Feb. 29, 2020. It also is the most points by a freshman since Lyric Cole’s 16-point outing against Bellarmine, Dec. 21, 2021. Nelson followed her career performance against the Bisons with another four-assist outing, while also adding four rebounds and three steals against Lipscomb, Saturday. The only Gov to have started all 27 games this season and averages 5.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Nelson is the second Gov to earn an ASUN weekly honor this season – joining Shamarre Hale was named the ASUN Newcomer of the Week, Jan. 16 and Jan. 23 – and is the first player to earn conference freshman of the week honors since Cole, Dec. 28, 2021.

(Undated)  — College basketball returns tonight.  Number-14 Tennessee plays host to Arkansas.  The Cardinals play host to Virginia Tech tonight.  The Commodores will head to Kentucky tomorrow night. The Tigers and will head to SMU on Thursday.
