Todd Fiscal Court works through short agenda in special-called meeting

Todd County Fiscal Court made short work of a routine agenda at a special-called meeting Thursday and went into closed session to discuss the recent buyout of a deputy’s contract for the Hopkinsville Police Department.

The City of Hopkinsville recently paid Todd County about $63,000 to hire one of its newest deputies who was still under contract.

Officer Jonathan Knight was sworn in as a member of HPD this month, but in 2020 he went to the basic training academy in Richmond and trained at the cost of the Todd County Sheriff’s Office.

Todd Fiscal Court spent several minutes in closed session Thursday and following that discussion, County Attorney Jeff Traughber says they released Hopkinsville from any future claims after receiving that payment.

In other action, magistrates gave Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield the authority to apply for about $5,800 in grant funds that would help the Todd County Chamber of Commerce market local tourism opportunities.

Todd County Jailer Jeff Penick reports they are housing 146 inmates—116 state and 30 county inmates.
