A Hopkinsville man is now charged with the thefts of at least three separate trailers following investigations by three different agencies.
A trailer was stolen from a location in the 4400 block of Princeton Road Tuesday and the victim found it for sale that night on Facebook Marketplace.
After asking a series of questions and confirming it was his trailer, the owner set up a meeting for Wednesday afternoon at the Oak Grove Walmart. The suspect—41-year old Ryan Barnett of Hopkinsville—was instead met by detectives from the Christian County Sheriff’s Department.
Investigation led to Barnett being charged with felony theft, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, use of restricted ammunition during commission of a felony, driving without a license or insurance and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
The stolen trailer was returned to its owner.
Barnett is also facing a felony theft and receiving stolen property charge for a recent theft of a trailer on North Ewing Street in Guthrie, with a court appearance on those charges set for March 6 in Todd District Court. That trailer was also recovered and returned to its owner by Guthrie police.
Hopkinsville police went to the jail Thursday and interviewed Barnett about the theft of a trailer from a Meadow Glenn Lane address in December and he made incriminating statements about his involvement in the theft, according to an arrest citation.
He allegedly sold that trailer to another party for $1,800.
Barnett is charged with felony theft by unlawful taking and felony theft by deception, in addition to other counts, for that incident.
