UK vs. UF Preview

As Kentucky and Florida prepare to meet for the second time this season, we will carry it, as always, on 98.7 Lite FN beginning at 4:30. The Cats beat the Gators 72-67 at Rupp Arena on Feb. 4. Freshman guard Cason Wallace led UK with 20 points, while senior forward Jacob Toppin had 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Road Woes – Racers Fall at Missouri State

The Murray State Racers dropped an 84-69 loss Tuesday to the Missouri State Bears at the Great Southern Bank Arena in Springfield. Rob Perry scored 20 points, while JaCobi Wood added 16 and the Racers had 10 points each from Jamari Smith and Quincy Anderson.

Govs kick off season-ending, two-game road trip at Stetson, Wednesday

Looking to end the season on a high note, the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team will look to put together back-to-back wins when it takes on Stetson at 6 p.m., Wednesday, in ASUN Conference action at the J. Ollie Edmunds Center in DeLand, Florida. Austin Peay enters the season-ending, two-game road trip in the Sunshine State after beating North Florida, 73-71, to end an 11-game slide. The Governors are just 2-12 away from the Winfield Dunn Center this season and will square off against a Stetson team that is 8-1 at home this season. The Hatters enter the week in fourth place in the ASUN with a record of 11-5 and a spot in the conference tournament already secured. Stetson won both of its games last week, beating Florida Gulf Cost twice to improve to 16-11 overall on the season.

Women’s Basketball game against Central Arkansas canceled

The Austin Peay State University women’s basketball March 1 game against Central Arkansas has been canceled due to the Sugar Bears not meeting the minimum requirement of student-athletes to field a team. The ASUN Conference will award Austin Peay with a conference victory, but the Governors’ overall win-loss record is not affected. Austin Peay will now celebrate its final game in the Winfield Dunn Center, “The Last Waltz,” in its 3 p.m., Saturday contest against Lipscomb before turning its attention to the ASUN Conference Women’s Basketball Championship, March 4-11.

Amber Smith Selected to Inaugural WBCA Next Generation Institute

University of Kentucky women’s basketball assistant coach Amber Smith has been selected to the inaugural Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Next Generation Institute, which is a new high-level education program for experienced assistant coaches who aspire to become head coaches at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels. The Next Generation Institute curriculum focuses on the CEO attributes needed to lead a program and be a problem-solver in today’s ever-changing landscape of higher education and the enterprise of intercollegiate athletics.

>>Vols Fall to Texas A&M

(Bryan-College Station, TX)  — The number-13 Tennessee Volunteers are on a two-game losing streak following a 68-63 defeat against number-25 Texas A&M at Reed Arena.  The Vols trailed for most of the second half, but they got within one with 25 seconds left in regulation before the Aggies closed the door with four-straight free throws.  Santiago Vescovi and Zakai Zeigler both scored 14 points in the losing effort.  Tennessee dropped to 20-and-8 overall and 9-and-6 in the SEC.  The Volunteers host South Carolina on Saturday.
